Here is another new piece, written in the fall of 2010, whose inspiration was a wonderful and surprising weekend with a new friend. It holds both the joy of our encounter, and the sadness that came when we parted.
It is a long piece, 13 minutes, which is exactly as it was played in one take, with no idea even in my head what it would become. I am always in a state of wonder at the way creativity happens - I can observe it in the moment, and still not know entirely where the music comes from. I do hear a melody in my head that leads me on to the next measure, phrase, or chord - and thus the sound almost weaves itself as I play it for the first time (or rather, as the music plays me.)
